IMD forecasts 'widespread rain' for next five days in Kerala

The IMD has predicted widespread rainfall in Kerala for the next five days after the formation of the low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rain in Kerala for the next five days. There are high chances of heavy rain in isolated places in the state. According to IMD's Friday forecast, another low-pressure area is anticipated over the Bay of Bengal by July 24 a day after the creation of a low-pressure region that brought heavy rain in Odisha.

Around July 24, a fresh LPA may form in the same region, leading to five days of heavy rainfall across southern Chhattisgarh, southern Odisha, Telangana, and northern Andhra Pradesh.

Kerala, Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana may get light to moderate widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rains during the course of the next five days. On July 23, isolated very heavy rainfall may take place over coastal and southern interior Karnataka, and on July 25, it may do so over the north coast of Andhra Pradesh.

The IMD predicted that isolated rainfall is likely in Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
