I-T Dept freezes Sasikala's assets worth Rs 2000 crore

Synopsis

The assets frozen under the Benami Prohibition Act also include two properties worth around Rs 300 crore.   

Income Tax department has attached assets belonging to former CM J Jayalalithaa's aide VK Sasikala in Tamil Nadu's Kodanad and Siruthavur areas. 

Assets worth Rs 2000 crore have been frozen by officials of the Income Tax department.

Sasikala and two of her relatives -- Illavarasi and Sudhakaran -- are currently serving a four-year sentence in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru since February 2017 in connection with the disproportionate assets case.

The assets frozen under the Benami Prohibition Act also include two properties worth around Rs 300 crore.
