Synopsis

The GSLV-F09, carrying the GSAT-9 or the South Asia satellite took off successfully at 4:57 pm by the ISRO. PM Narendra Modi addresses the media, congratulating ISRO for the magnanimous fete

The GSLV-F09, carrying the GSAT-9 or the South Asia satellite took off successfully at 4:57 pm by the ISRO. Its not just the capital involved in the launch programme that matters, but also the countries that benefited from it.

The 450-crore worth satellite, was in fact, a gift to the seven SAARC nations. Six of India’s neighbours including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka,  Nepal and the Maldives are participating in the project. 

The satellite weighed 2230 kilograms during the take off from the second launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikotta and will be carrying 12 Ku-Band transponders. Congratulating the success of the mission, PM Narendra Modi tweets:
