Fact check: Did Ministry of Home Affairs allow reopening of schools?

Synopsis

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) denied any reports which claimed that it has provided permission to all the states to open schools.

New Delhi: An image taken from a TV news channel went viral on social media recently. The contents of the image indicated that the Ministry of Home Affairs permitted reopening of schools, colleges and other educational institutions.  It further claimed that the Home Secretary has sent a letter to all the states giving permission for the same.

Did the Ministry of Home Affairs make an announcement?

The spokesperson of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday clarified that no such orders have been issued. To curb the spread of coronavirus, the Indian government has shut down all the educational institutions since it announced the lockdown on March 24.

The MHA took to Twitter on Wednesday and shared the screenshot of the fake claim and said, "No such decision taken by MHA. All educational institutions are still prohibited to open, throughout the country."

India is currently witnessing the fourth phase of the lockdown that is likely to end on May 31.
