DG of West Bengal Police tests positive for COVID-19

Synopsis

Director-general (DG) of the West Bengal police, Shri Virendra has been tested positive for COVID-19. He is currently in home isolation.

Many police personnel and officers have been infected with COVID-19 in recent times. This time, director-general (DG) of the West Bengal police, Shri Virendra has been tested positive for COVID-19. After undergoing the COVID test, the report came positive. 

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee confirmed this news during a meeting on Tuesday (November 10). The DG is currently in home isolation.

According to sources, the DG was not present at the Bishwa Bangla Sharad ceremony which took place at Nabanna (State Secretariat) on Tuesday. The chief minister informed in the meeting that the DG has been diagnosed with COVID-19. However, it is not yet known from where has he contracted the disease.  Those who have been in contact with the DG will undergo a COVID test.

On behalf of the DG of state police, security adviser Surjit Kar Purkayastha was present in the ceremony that took place in Nabanna on Tuesday. He said, “For Kali Pujo, all the district governors and police superintendents have to work together in a peaceful manner. We have to take necessary precautions so that the COVID-19 infection does not spread in the state.”
