
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's birthday on January 23 as a national holiday.
She also requested the Prime Minister to “take decisive steps to find out what happened to Netaji and place the matter in public domain so that people get to know what finally happened to the great leader.”

The All India Forward Bloc, the party Bose formed after leaving the Congress, has been demanding for years that January 23 be observed as national holiday.
The Chief Minister wrote in her letter to the PM, “Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose has a special place in our hearts. I would like to request your kind personal intervention to see that the Central Government declared 23 January, Netaji's birthday, a
National Holiday and also takes appropriate steps to give conclusive position to the issue relating to the disappearance of Netaji.”

Born in 1897, Netaji's 125th birth anniversary will be observed next year.
