Union minister Mahesh Sharma "advises" tourists to not wear skirts

Synopsis

Union Minister Mahesh Sharma has a list of dos and don'ts for tourists who visit India but what stood out on his list was - 'Don't wear short skirts'.

On Sunday, the minister of state for culture said, "When tourists arrive at the airport, they are handed a small pamphlet of dos and don'ts, which has instructions like don't roam around alone, don't wear short skirts...take a picture of the car number they are travelling by and send it to their friend."

He also added, "We have a different dress code for temples. Kindly keep that in mind while dressing up."

Sharma clarifies his point saying, "We are not telling them what to wear and what not to wear. We are only saying that when they go out at night, they should be careful and take a picture of the taxi number."

The minister has been trolled on Twitter and other such social media websites ever since he made the controversial statement on dress codes.
