Cow urine business is booming in India

Synopsis

In June, in what is being hailed a breakthrough, researchers at Junagadh Agricultural University (JAU) in Gujarat found gold particles in the urine of some cows from the Gir region of the state. Now, another report has claimed that cow urine has become a major business in India, but it certainly is not for finding gold.

According to a Bloomberg report, cow urine is being treated as a priced possession.

"Around 30 remedies can be prepared at home with cow urine," Sunil Mansinghka, chief coordinator at Go-Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra, a cow-focused research organization in Nagpur told Bloomberg.

Cow urine is believed to treat ailments too. The Bloomberg report also revealed that one of the largest buyers of cow urine was Patanjali, a company owned by the yoga guru, Baba Ramdev. The company uses the cow urine to make floor cleaners.

"We prepare 20 tons of Gaunyle (made of cow urine) a day and still can't meet demand," managing director Acharya Balkrishna told Bloomberg.
