Coronavirus: Tamil Nadu records first death

Synopsis

With this death, Tamil Nadu recorded its  first COVID-19 death. According to reports, the patient has no travel history to other states or countries.  


Chennai: A 54-year-old coronavirus patient from Madurai, who had no travel history to other states or countries, died early on Wednesday morning. Tamil Nadu’s health minister C Vijayabaskar took to Twitter and stated that the patient has died. “Despite our best efforts, the #COVID-19 +ve Pt at MDU, #RajajiHospital, passed away few minutes back. He had medical history of prolonged illness with steroid-dependent COPD, uncontrolled Diabetes with Hypertension,” the minister tweeted.

With this death, Tamil Nadu recorded its first COVID-19 death. According to reports, the patient had been infected with coronavirus on March 23.

The total number of COVID-19 infected patients in Tamil Nadu is 18, including the one who recovered. The last patient is a 65-year-old man. He has a travel history from New Zealand. He is admitted at a private hospital.

Tamil Nadu reported three more positive cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday, taking the total number of infected in the state to 18. 

Meanwhile, Pune-based molecular diagnostics company Mylab Discovery Solutions on Monday said it has received commercial approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) for its COVID-19 test kit. 

Made in India: 

The company said in a statement that the test kit developed by the company is a “Made in India” product set to receive commercial approval from CDSCO. The COVID- 19 kit has been made as per WHO/CDC guidelines.
