Coronavirus: PM Modi to hold meeting with chief ministers via video conferencing

The focus of the meeting will be on worst affected states and also to review lifting of the lockdown


New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to hold his fifth meeting with chief ministers a week ahead of phase 3 of the nationwide lockdown coming to an end.

The government is expected to review the situation in the states before taking a final call on the lifting of the lockdown which was necessitated to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The home minister, health minister, chief secretary, home secretary, health secretary and DGP have been requested to attend.
 
The main focus of the meeting will be on worst hit states. The interaction is likely to be the longest one as all chief ministers will be allowed to speak. Earlier PMO used to decide on the chief ministers who will speak during the interaction.

India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 62,000-mark today as the country recorded 62,939 cases with the death toll rising to 2,109. The active cases stand at 41,472, while 19,357 people have been cured.

India has been under nationwide lockdown since March 24 to arrest the spread of deadly virus. However, lockdown has been eased in some parts of the country where there haven't been coronavirus cases reported.

Liquor stores have been open in all zones while small industries with minimum staff have resumed operations in green zones.
