Coronavirus: Nine staff at Karnataka CM Yediyurappa’s residence test positive for COVID-19

All staff at his official, home and personal residences are undergoing COVID-19 tests to contain the spread of coronavirus

Bengaluru: A day after Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa tested positive for coronavirus, the health officials arrived at his official residence, Cauvery and home residence, Krishna to sanitise the locations and trace his contacts.

Health and BBMP personnel also sanitised the area around the chief minister’s personal residence, Dhavalagiri, in Dollar’s Colony, Bengaluru.

The primary contacts were ferried to quarantine facilities in as many as four ambulances and random tests were carried out. His staff including cooks, housekeeping staff, security personnel underwent the test.

However, according to a report on Deccan Herald, a senior health official, refusing to be quoted, said, “As many as six people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the random testing including chief minister’s gunman, driver, and three house-keeping staffers at Cauvery. All of them have been now shifted to CCCs for further treatment.” All of the persons who tested COVID-19 positive have been rushed to COVID Care Centre at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BEIC).”

“Doctors and paramedical staff have been conducting rapid tests on staffers. Depending on the reports, the staff will either be quarantined or shifted to COVID Care Centres,” the senior officer added.

Meanwhile, Yediyurappa’s daughter has also tested positive for the virus and his son and MLA BY Vijayendra went into quarantine for seven days today.

Yediyurappa had attended various programmes last week, including the inauguration of the work on the Bengaluru Bio-life-sciences Park on July 29.

On July 31, he met Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala, triggering speculations of a pending Cabinet expansion. He also met some of his Cabinet colleagues.

Bengaluru Urban reported 2,105 cases, followed by Ballari which saw 377 cases, Kalaburagi and Mysuru recorded 238 cases each. At least 212 cases were reported in Raichur, 182 in Udupi and 181 in Dharwad. Eight more districts recorded cases in three figures while the remaining districts reported fresh cases in two digits, according to the health department’s latest bulletin.
