Coronavirus: Karnataka crosses grim milestone of 2,000 positive cases

In a Sunday shocker, Karnataka crossed the 2,000-mark by reporting 97 new coronavirus cases


Bengaluru: COVID-19 cases in Karnataka breached the 2,000 mark on Sunday with the detection of 97 cases, most of them returnees to the state from Maharashtra, the health department said.

It said the total number of positive cases is now at 2,056, including 634 discharges, 1,378 active cases and 42 deaths. Of the total number of cases, 73 had returned from Maharashtra and 41 among them were women.

Out of the 97 cases, 26 are from Chikkaballapura, 18 are from Udupi, 15 cases are reported from Mandya and 14 from Hassan.

Two cases have been reported in Tumakuru. A 22-year-old man who tested positive is a returnee from Gujarat. He had come in contact with a previously infected patient (P-792). He is currently under observation at a Tumakuru hospital. A 50-year-old man, who tested positive of the coronavirus, is a returnee from Maharashtra. He is currently under observation at a Tumakuru hospital.

No fresh case has been reported from Bengaluru.
