Coronavirus: Inmates who tested positive for COVID-19 escape isolation facility in Pune jail

Pune: On September 10, two coronavirus-infected inmates escaped from an isolation facility at a temporary prison in Yerawada area of Pune city.

The two undertrials had tested positive for the deadly infection recently and were kept in an isolation facility in a government hostel. The hostel was converted into a temporary prison to decongest the Yerawada Central Prison, the official said.

He added that “in the early hours of the day, two inmates escaped from the isolation facility after bending the grills of a window," he said.

A case has been registered against the duo at Yerawada police station, he added.

Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh, two undertrials undergoing treatment at a COVID hospital on Thursday (September 10) managed to flee after breaking the bathroom window, police said. Rape accused, Rajju and Brijlal, escaped at about 4 am from the hospital, Superintendent of Police Ankit Mittal said.
