Coronavirus: Chennai welcomes 72 police personnel back on duty after recovering from COVID-19

Chennai: Chennai City Police commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal on Monday welcomed 72 police personnel back to duty after their recovery from COVID-19.

The top official interacted with 72 personnel who joined duty today after recovery from the coronavirus infection and enquired about their wellness in the premises of the office of the city police commissioner.

Aggarwal also gave away certificates of commendation to them lauding their services during the pandemic, a police release said.

The commissioner also gave them a herbal immunity-boosting drink Kabasurakudineer.

Over 1,000 city police personnel have tested positive for the virus till recently and several of them have been cured and others are under treatment.

Tamil Nadu recorded 4,244 positive cases of COVID-19 on Sunday (July 12), bringing the state tally to 1,38,470. Among these, Chennai reported 1,168 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 77,338. The city's neighbouring districts also saw a spike in a number of persons testing positive with 245 cases in Chengalpattu, 385 in Kancheepuram and 232 in Tiruvallur.

Tamil Nadu recorded 68 deaths on Sunday, putting the state toll at 1,966.

All districts in Tamil Nadu reported new cases on Sunday. Meanwhile, the state tested 42,531 samples.
