Coronavirus: Bengaluru COVID-19 woman patient kills self in hospital

A female COVID positive patient hanged herself using a saree in the toilet at Bengaluru’s KC General Hospital  

Bengaluru: A 60-year-old woman who tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Bengaluru killed herself in a designated hospital on Thursday (June 25), police confirmed.

According to police, the woman hung herself in the restroom of KC General Hospital. "She had gone to the restroom at around 2 am on Wednesday. However, as she did not return for a long while, her daughter-in-law went to check on her when she found her hanging dead," police said.

The patient informed the COVID ward staff that she needed to relieve herself and went into the bathroom.

According to reports, the woman lived with her family in Rajagopalnagar in north Bengaluru and was a native of Kunigal in Tumakuru district. Malleswaram police have registered a case citing unnatural death, further investigation is on.

In the backdrop of the incident, Bengaluru Police commissioner Bhaskar Rao appealed “Do not get scared of COVID and commit suicide.”

This is the third suicide triggered by COVID fear being reported in the city in recent times.

It can be recalled that a head constable, attached to the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) had killed himself on his way to CV Raman Hospital in Indiranagar on Monday.

In another incident, in April, a 50-year-old man undergoing treatment at the COVID-19 ward at Victoria hospital had also killed himself by jumping from the building.
