Former Congress MP Pratibha Singh expressed gratitude to the people of Himachal Pradesh for the Congress party's strong performance in the recent urban local body elections, stressing that the results reflect growing public support for the party in the state.
In her statement, Singh asserted that Congress contests elections on the plank of development, while the BJP attempts to secure votes by "playing with people's emotions". She further stated that Congress believes in taking everyone along, whereas the BJP indulges in politics based on regionalism and religion.
"The results of the municipal body elections have made it clear that public opinion in the state is in favour of the Congress," said Singh.
Expressing confidence ahead of the upcoming elections to four Municipal Corporations in the state, she said the Congress would maintain its winning momentum and emerge victorious in the state.
Pratibha Singh also called upon party leaders and workers to remain united and ensure the victory of Congress-backed candidates in the Gram Panchayat elections. She urged party cadres to expose what she termed the BJP's "false propaganda" and work towards strengthening grassroots democracy in rural areas.
She said rural development remained the Congress party's primary objective and stressed the need to strengthen the Congress ideology so that people could fully benefit from the welfare schemes of the state government at their doorstep. The former MP congratulated all party leaders, office-bearers and workers for the electoral success and thanked the people of the state for their continued support.
Earlier, the ruling Congress in Himachal Pradesh claimed that the party had received a decisive mandate in the Urban Local Body (ULB) elections, asserting that the results reflected public support for the state government's policies and organisation.
Speaking to ANI in Shimla, Vinod Zinta, the Secretary Organisation, HP Congress Committee, said that the Congress had emerged victorious in a majority of Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Parishad elections across the state and termed the outcome a 'semi-final' ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
"The people of Himachal Pradesh have clearly supported the Congress Party in the elections of Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Parishad. Out of 47 bodies, Congress has won 31," Zinta said. He said the party was grateful to the people of the state for their "unwavering support and love" and claimed the results showed that voters had endorsed the policies of the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh.
