Synopsis

Following the murder of a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore, newly elected MLA NM Sukumar demanded the accused be 'encountered', while Minister V Sampath assured the family of capital punishment. Police have arrested two accused in the case.

Newly elected TVK MLA from Sulur constituency NM Sukumar on Saturday demanded stringent action in the Coimbatore school girl murder case and said that the accused "must be encountered." Speaking to ANI after meeting the victim's family at the ESI Hospital in Coimbatore, Sukumar sought strict punishment for those arrested in the case, saying, "Accused individuals of this kind must be encountered."

His remarks follow the death of a 10-year-old schoolgirl whose body was found near a pond in the Sulur area.

Minister Vows 'Highest Capital Punishment'

Tamil Nadu Minister V Sampath also visited the hospital and met the victim's family members. "I have spoken with the Chief Minister, and the investigation has already begun. This is a new government. The accused will receive the highest capital punishment," the minister assured.

Investigation and Arrests

Police have arrested two accused, identified as Karthick and Mohanraj, in connection with the murder.

According to police, the girl had gone missing while playing in front of her house. Her parents and relatives later found her body near a pond, triggering tension in the area.

Family members suspected sexual assault and demanded strict action against those responsible.

Sulur police registered a case and sent the body to the Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police suspect that the child may have been strangled to death.

Tension and Protests Grip Sulur

The body of the girl has been kept at ESI Hospital in Varadharajapuram for post-mortem examination, while a heavy police deployment has been made outside the hospital.

Alongside, parents and relatives staged a protest on a National Highway near the Sulur Police Station, demanding justice for the victim, leading to traffic congestion before police intervened and held talks with the protesters.
