Synopsis

The city of Chandigarh was put on high alert on Friday as air raid sirens sounded across various localities, signaling the potential threat of an attack from Pakistan amid rising tensions.

The Chandigarh administration issued an urgent air raid warning on Friday, advising residents to stay indoors following a potential security threat from Pakistan amid rising tensions with India. The official statement from the administration read, “An air warning has been received from the air force station of a possible attack. Sirens are being sounded. All are advised to remain indoors and away from balconies.”

Chandigarh, the common capital of Punjab and Haryana, is now on high alert, with authorities taking precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

The Mohali district administration in Punjab, which borders Chandigarh, has also issued similar guidelines, urging people in the surrounding areas to stay inside. The message from the Mohali administration read, “There is an alert in some areas of Chandigarh. We are advising Mohali residents in the bordering sectors to remain indoors and away from windows and glass panes.”

The development follows a night of heightened tension when air raid sirens were sounded in Chandigarh on Thursday after Indian forces successfully thwarted Pakistan's fresh attempts to strike military installations across northern and western India. These attacks, carried out with drones and missiles, targeted key military sites in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur.

The renewed Pakistani military strikes came two days after India launched precise missile strikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror locations in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan. This operation was a direct response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The Pakistani military's attempts on Thursday included strikes on various cities, such as Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.
