Synopsis

Union Minister Nityanand Rai's nephew was killed in a dispute over drinking water in Jagatpur village in Bihar's Bhagalpur.

Union Minister Nityanand Rai's nephew was shot dead in a dispute over drinking water in Jagatpur village in Bihar's Bhagalpur on Thursday. According to reports, a minor disagreement between Rai's two nephews, Jayjeet Yadav and Vishwajit Yadav, quickly escalated into a violent confrontation. The incident unfolded on Thursday morning at the residence of Raghunandan Yadav, the brother-in-law of the minister, in Jagatpur.

Vikal died on the spot while Jayjeet is critically injured.

Naugachhia SP Prerna Kumar was quoted by Economic Times as saying, "We got information that two brothers shot each other in Jagatpur village around 7.30 am today. In the incident, one brother was injured and one died in hospital. Post-mortem of the deceased man is being done. Prima facie, it appears to have been a fight over a water tap, which escalated so much that they shot at each other. The two men have been identified as Vishwajeet and Jayjeet. Prompt action has been taken, and statements are being recorded. We have information (that the two men are nephews of a Union minister)."

Further investigation is underway.
