BJP gags Subramanian Swamy, cancels 2 functions

After the Prime Minister Narendra Modi ticked off MP Subramanian Swamy for his recent comments against RBI chief Raghuram Rajan and others, there are reports that the BJP is taking steps to prevent him from making further caustic remarks.

According to a report, the party has cancelled two events which Swamy was supposed to attend in an effort to prevent the MP from boisterous criticisms of senior officials and ministers.

The report says that a function, which Swamy was supposed to address, on June 26 in Mumbai to mark the anniversary of the imposition of Emergency, was cancelled. Another event which was hosted by the RSS in Chennai this week has also been cancelled.

The BJP was on the back foot following open criticism from officials and ministers of Swamy's remarks on Twitter and other social forums. The BJP is making a concerted effort to distance from the MP, who has been embarrassing the party with acrimonious comments.

Swamy did not stop after targeting Rajan. He went on to demand the resignation of the Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian, targeted Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das and the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in a veiled manner.

In his interview to Times Now TV channel, the Prime Minister clearly stated that he disapproved of party MPs attacks on RBI Governor Rajan and other top finance ministry officials adding they are "inappropriate".

Modi went on to defend Rajan saying that Rajan is "no less patriotic". He also sent a strong message to Swamy by adding that "if anybody considers himself above the system then they are wrong".
