Bengaluru’s lady BMTC chief C Shikha drives Volvo to empower women staff

Synopsis

To get the feeling of Volvo buses, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) MD C Shikha drove a Volvo bus at the training institute at Hoskote, Karnataka, on Saturday. The MD says she wants to empower more women in BMTC and start driving Volvo buses.  


Bengaluru: To send a strong message about women empowerment and also to take her staff into confidence, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) MD C Shikha drove the Volvo bus. Shikha was assisted by fellow staff at the training centre at Hoskote, Karnataka.

When asked about her driving skills, she said, she just wanted to get the feeling of public transport in Volvo and also experience the feeling of driving a Volvo. Shikha insisted that more women staff should come forward to drive Volvo buses.

Earlier, Honahalli MLA MP Renukacharya drove the bus and was trolled. Following this, the public transport staff received notice. Shikha said that the case is different and her driving a Volvo is different as she did it at a safe location under the supervision of concerned officials.
