Bengal government slashes cost of COVID-19 RT-PCR test to Rs 950

Synopsis

The West Bengal government on Thursday (December 3) slashed the maximum price of RT-PCR test to detect the novel coronavirus by private labs to ₹950, joining a list of other states in capping the COVID-19 test price so as to facilitate more testing amongst the public.

The West Bengal Government on Thursday (December 3) has slashed the maximum price of RT-PCR test to detect the novel coronavirus by private labs to ₹950, joining a list of other states in capping the COVID-19 test price so as to facilitate more testing amongst the public.

The decision in this regard was taken by Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Apart from the above announcement, Banerjee has also promised to provide Tablet computers to more than 9.5 lakh higher secondary students studying in government and government-affiliated schools in the state.

Earlier, other states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha and Delhi had reduced the price of RT-PCR test to be charged by the private labs.

Recently, states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Delhi reduced the maximum price of RT-PCR tests. While Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Bihar brought it down to Rs 800, UP has fixed it at Rs 700.

Till December 2, around 5.9 million Covid-19 tests have been conducted in West Bengal. On Wednesday 42,624 tests were conducted.

CM Mamata Banerjee urged the citizens not to lower their guard against Covid-19.
