Amidst high security, almost 99% students appeared in class 10 exams in J&K

Synopsis

Only 1% students refrained from sitting in the board exam. Tight security arrangements were made in and around the exam centres. Some of the students faced difficulty as there were inadequate transport facilities.

This year, despite all the adversaries almost 99% students turned up to appear in their class 10 board exams in Jammu & Kashmir as per official data. Adequate security measures were made around as well as in the exam centres for ensuring the smooth conduct of the exams.

The data reveals that 55500 students out of 56277 sat for the exams conducted through 558 centres spread across the valley. 777 students remained absent which means only 1% students refrained from this 10th boards.

This is an impressive turn-up as hardline separatists called for attacking schools in the preceding months and weeks just to deprive Kashmiri students of their right to education.

Some of the students faced difficulty as there were inadequate transport facilities and some reached the exam centres late, yet the threats and the disturbing situation in the valley failed to prevent the students from taking the exams.

Earlier some students, as well as mainstream opposition parties, demanded deferment of the exam in view of the incomplete syllabus. However, the Board of School Education reduced the syllabuses and committed to provide assistance to the students in writing the papers.
