Agartala Police solve 2 'blind' theft cases, one with violent attack

Agartala Police cracked two 'blind' theft cases, arresting three persons and recovering all stolen goods. The cases include a violent housebreak where the owner was attacked and a burglary at the home of a retired BSF commandant's son.

Agartala Police on Friday cracked two separate "blind" theft cases, including one involving a violent housebreak, with the arrest of three persons and the recovery of all stolen items, police said.

Violent Housebreak in Ramnagar

According to police, on January 19, a group of thieves attempted to break into a house in the Ramnagar area of Agartala. When the house owner confronted them, one of the accused attacked him with a sharp weapon, causing serious injuries that required medical treatment and stitches. The accused fled the spot without stealing any valuables.

Burglary in Krishnanagar

In another incident, burglars targeted the residence of Suman Nag in the Krishnanagar area while the family was away in Delhi. Suman Nag is the son of a retired Deputy Commandant of the Border Security Force (BSF). The thieves decamped with household items from the locked house.

Investigation Leads to Arrests

Rana Chatterjee, Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala Police Station, said that investigators used technical surveillance and evidence to identify and arrest two members of the gang -- Nazmul Mia and Bulbul. During interrogation, police recovered the stolen items from Suman Mia's possession, to whom the gang had allegedly sold the goods.

"All three accused have been arrested, produced before a magistrate, and police have sought custody for further interrogation. More names of those involved are emerging during questioning," Chatterjee said.

Attacker Identified by Victim

Police also confirmed that Nazmul Mia, who allegedly assaulted the Ramnagar house owner, was formally identified by the victim at the police station.

Wider Crackdown on Property Crime

Chatterjee added that West Agartala Police have also made progress in other property-related cases, including mobile phone thefts, and arrested one accused from Jharkhand in connection with those incidents.

"Our operations against property crimes are ongoing. Patrolling has been intensified across the city, and we are responding promptly to all complaints related to theft or unlawful activities, ensuring recovery and return of stolen items to rightful owners," the OC said.

Rana Chatterjee was speaking exclusively to ANI while briefing on the recent crackdown against theft and dacoity in Agartala.

Police Officer's Briefing

Agartala West police station Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee said, "In my police station a complaint was launched that in Ramnagar area on 19 January a group of thieves entered into a house to Steel something but the moment the owner of the house saw the thief he injured the owner very severely by a sharp weapon for which he had to undergo medical treatment with stitches and escaped stealing goods from his house."

He added, "Secondly, in the Krishna Nagar area, another incident of theft happened in the house of Suman Nag, the son of a Deputy BSF Commandant, while being in Delhi. The thieves stole all items. In our investigation, we got the evidence & used technology and arrested two thieves of that gang. One is Nazmul Mia, and another one is Bulbul."

"After interrogation, we retrieved the stolen item from the custody of Suman Mia, to whom the gang sold the stolen items. We arrested three in total involved in the theft and produced them to the magistrate and asked permission for interrogation, and after interrogation, more names of the involved are revealed. We recovered all the stolen items", Rana said.

The police officer further said that "The thief who injured the house owner, Nazmul Mia, has also been identified by the owner in my police station. We solved both the blind cases of theft, and other complaints of mobile theft have also been investigated, in which a thief of Jharkhand has been arrested. Our operation against all property-related matters are on in the city & patrolling is on at all areas of the city, and if any complaint against any offence of property theft or anything unlawful, we are investigating promptly & returning the items to the real owners."
