After Panama Papers, Bahamas exposes 475 India-linked names

475 India-linked names have been exposed in the Bahamas Papers. The Bahamas Papers contains a cache of 1.3 million files with details of more than 175,000 companies.

The ripples created by the Panama paper leak is yet to ebb, but now a fresh exposé dubbed as the "Bahamas papers" has listed out 475 India-related businessmen with companies registered in the tax haven.

Some of the top names on the list are that of Anil Agarwal of the Vedanta Group, former Baron Group's top head Kabir Mulchandani and Fashion TV India promoter Aman Gupta.

In India, the report was first published by The Indian Express, which was able to access the information after it was published by German newspaper Suddeutche Zeitung, which then shared it with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and its media partners.

A cache of 1.3 million files containing the details of more than 175,000 companies registered in the Bahamas was released by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists - the same group which revealed the Panama Papers.

The bigwigs named in the "Bahamas Papers" include mining, electronics, real estate, media and entertainment. Some of the names on the new list also had appeared in the Panama Papers leak from earlier this year, IE had reported.

The content recovered supposedly were in two sets of overlapping data. IE reported that they were "hidden layers" of offshore secrecy. 

The data has been made publically available by ICIJ on a searchable database containing details of the offshore companies that have been set up in the Bahamas. The database can be accessed here.
