21 candidates contest Kuwait general poll results

Synopsis

  Most of the complainants wanted to recount. The court will make an initial evaluation of the complaints before going into the details.   


 

 As many as 15 candidates who lost the polls in Kuwait filed complaints in the constitutional court against the general election results. With this, the number of candidates contesting the poll results rose to 21. 

 

The court has set Sunday as the deadline file election-related complaints. Most of the complainants wanted to recount. The court will make an initial evaluation of the complaints before going into the details. 

 

The verdict of the constitutional court in the complaints will be final. Those who approached the court against the poll results also include four former parliamentarians. Many candidates had lost the contest in narrow margins.

 

Fifteen women were among the 287 candidates ran in the elections held on November 26. Women were given the right to vote in Kuwait general elections in 2005.
