Subrata Mukherjee, a senior Trinamool Congress lawmaker, died on Thursday while being treated for heart issues at a state-run hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said. His wife is the only survivor. Mukherjee also oversaw three other departments. The chief minister, who was celebrating Kali Puja at her Kalighat bungalow, went to the SSKM Hospital and reported his death. She stated that she could not believe that the leader was no longer with us. Calling him a dedicated party leader, she said his death was a personal loss for her. Banerjee stated that it would be moved from there to his Ballygunge residence and subsequently to his ancestral home. She said that she had been through many calamities in her life, but this was a particularly devastating blow. She stated that she does not believe another man like Subrata da will be as sweet and hardworking. The state CM went on to say that the party and his seat (Ballygunge) were his soul.

The West Bengal Pradesh Congress president, Adhir Chowdhury, also offered his condolences on his death. Mukherjee was also the head of a group that hosts one of the city's most important Durga Pujas.
His ashes will be taken to Rabindra Sadan, a government-owned theatre, where people may pay their condolences on Friday. According to hospital sources, the minister suffered from stent thrombosis,' one of the deadly consequences of percutaneous coronary intervention. According to reports, Mukherjee, hospitalised on October 24 due to respiratory issues, underwent angioplasty on November 1 when two stents were put within his clogged arteries. He had excessive blood sugar levels, COPD, and other age-related problems. In May, the former Kolkata mayor was hospitalised with identical symptoms after being arrested and imprisoned in connection with the Narada sting tape case. He was released on bond.
