Akhilesh Yadav further stated that an election partnership between his party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) had been finalised.
Akhilesh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party leader, announced on Monday that he would not run in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections early next year. He also stated that an election partnership between his party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) had been finalised. In an interview with the news agency PTI, Akhilesh Yadav, who is also an SP MP from Azamgarh said they have reached an agreement with RLD and seat sharing is yet to be finalised.
Further speaking on the possibility of joining uncle Shivpal Yadav's Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia in the upcoming state elections, he stated that it is not an issue for him. As the assembly elections approach in 2022, Akhilesh Yadav has been campaigning in the state and has launched a persistent onslaught on the incumbent BJP, alleging that the party has only robbed the people of Uttar Pradesh and would be wiped out in the forthcoming election. Samajwadi Party leader ruled Uttar Pradesh until the Bharatiya Janata Party dethroned it and took power in the 2017 Assembly elections.

The Samajwadi Party failed to maintain power in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The party won only 47 seats. The BJP gained 312 seats in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, and Yogi Adityanath was appointed as the state's Chief Minister.
Earlier on Sunday, in an address in Hardoi, the SP president Akhilesh Yadav said that all sectors of the people in Uttar Pradesh had decided to put his party to power after the 2022 Assembly elections. Taking a dig at the current government, Yadav stated that the party's primary priority is to rename projects completed by the previous SP administration.
