During that time, O Panneerselvam rebelled and left the party. I would have made him the Chief Minister if he had not rebelled. I have been backstabbed so many times that there is no place left now to backstab. So, even after facing all these hardships how can I just be a mute spectator?” a report attributing to Sasikala's audio, stated.

After the demise of J Jayalilthaa 'Amma' in December 2016, the party after weeks, was split wide open into different camps. O Paneerselvam was expected to make way for Sasikala and he was not willing for yet another sacrifice and eventually turned a rebel and sat on a dharna called 'dharma yudham' in February 2017.

When Sasikala was about to take over as Tamil Nadu CM, the SC sentenced her conviction in illegal assets following which she made Edappadi Palanisamy the CM.

While she was in jail, Edappadi and Paneerselvam joined hands, expelled her from party accusing her of trying to control the party through her nephew TTV Dinakaran.

Paneerselvam was then made party chief while Palaniswami continued to be CM.

Upon her release from jail in January 2021 she was given a grand welcome. The leaders had appealed all the AIADMK caders to unite and vote and she had decided to politically retire.

But with bickering in the party and caders upset after the loss in election, Sasikala is now contemplating to return to active politics.

"Everyone is saying that the party is functioning only basis of caste. However, this is a party for commoners and I am upset about the party's shape currently. Even during this election, AIADMK would have come back to power but there was no cooperation from their (Paneerselvam and Palaniswami) side,” a report further stated Sasikala as saying in the audio.

The leader conversing with the cadre says that her only wish is to ensure to strengthen the AIADMK as per her patron Jayalalithaa's wish.

The leader reportedly said that she wants the party to rule for next 100 years as per Amma's wishes.
