Mahindra Defence gets Rs 1,350 crore order for anti-submarine systems

The IADS comes with an integrated capability for detecting enemy submarines and torpedoes at extended ranges as well as diverting incoming torpedoes fired by enemy submarines.


The Narendra Modi government on Friday awarded a contract worth around Rs 1,350 crore to Mahindra Defence Systems for procurement of 14 Integrated Anti-Submarine Warfare Defence Suites.

The contract with an Indian firm under the ‘Buy and Make (Indian)’ category of defence procurement is an important boost to India's 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' mission and to the indigenous defence industry in technology development and production.

The defence suite will enhance the anti-submarine warfare capability of the Indian Navy.

The IADS comes with an integrated capability for detecting enemy submarines and torpedoes at extended ranges as well as diverting incoming torpedoes fired by enemy submarines.

The versatile system can be operated from warships of all sizes.

The complex array of underwater sensors carry out surveillance and give inputs for signal processing and analysis that enable necessary action.

Mahindra Defence Systems Limited Chairman SP Shukla said that this was the first major contract being awarded to the private sector for underwater detection systems and protection from threats. 

The company claimed that the system is the first of its kind being developed by a domestic firm for the Indian Navy.
