Indian warship Tabar to take part in Russia's Navy Day celebration

The ship is on a goodwill visit to numerous friendly countries, has arrived on Thursday and will stay in Russia for next five days.



New Delhi: Indian Naval Ship Tabar, which is in Russia to participate in the 325th Russian Navy Day celebrations at St Petersburg, will also participate in the bilateral maritime exercise Indra (Navy), scheduled to take place in the last week of this month. 

The ship is on a goodwill visit to numerous friendly countries, has arrived on Thursday and will stay in Russia for the next five days.

The two countries share special bilateral relations that include close military ties and strong cooperation between the two navies.

During the Russian Navy Day Parade on July 25, INS Tabar will join the column of ships that will be reviewed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.  
Later the ship will also participate in the joint naval exercises called Indra (Navy).

Similarly, Indian Army and Russian Army will also carry out their joint exercise Indra from August 1-13, wherein 200 Indian armed forces personnel will be participating.

“The harbour interactions and the exercise at sea aim to consolidate the long standing ties between the two navies.These engagements seek to further enhance maritime security and conduct combined operations against maritime threats,” Indian Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said.

INS Tabar is a Talwar-class stealth frigate and forms part of the Indian Navy's Western Fleet which is based at Mumbai under the Western Naval Command. 

Incidentally, the ship was built for the Indian Navy in Russia and was commissioned at St Petersburg in April 2004. 

The ship is presently commanded by Capt Mahesh Mangipudi and has a complement of over 300 personnel. 

The ship is equipped with a versatile range of weapons and sensors and is among the earliest stealth frigates of the Indian Navy. 

On completion of her visit in Russia, the ship will head to the United Kingdom for the exercise.
