TMC writes to EC against UP police force deployment in Bengal

The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday (March 24) wrote to Election Commission requesting it to stop deployment of police force from Uttar Pradesh in West Bengal.  

The TMC also urged the commission to rein in central agencies that were “selectively” questioning party candidates and spokesperson but were ignoring BJP leaders and candidates implicated in the same cases.

The TMC wrote in a letter to the commission, “It has come to our notice that 30 companies of State Armed Police from Uttar Pradesh have been directed to be deployed by the Election Commission for the ongoing General Election to the Assembly Elections of West Bengal.”

“While we do not object to the deployment of S.A.P from any non-BJP ruled states, however, we strongly object to deployment of personnel of S.A.P from UP, since it is governed by Bharatiya Janata Party, and their Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, is a star campaigner for Bharatiya Janata Party,” the letter further said.

The letter also states, “We suspect them to have a bias in favour of Bharatiya Janata Party. We call upon the Election Commission to immediately stop such movement/deployment of S.A.P from UP and/or any other BJP ruled state to West Bengal.”

Elections to the 294-member Assembly seats in the state will be held in eight phases, from March 27 and the results will be declared on May 2.
