Khalsa TV fined over Rs 50 lakh in UK for endorsing Babbar Khalsa

UK content regulator, the Office of Communications or Ofcom, has slapped a fine of 50,000 Pounds (over Rs 50 lakh) on Khalsa Television Limited in Britain for a broadcasting content that gave an indirect call for Sikhs living in the UK to perpetrate violence.Slapping a 20,000 Pound fine on a music video that was aired in July 2018 that gave an indirect call to action for Sikhs living in the country to take up acts of violence, including murder.
Another 30,000 Pound fine was slapped on a March 20, 2019, live discussion programme titled Panthak Masle wherein guests were given a free hand to endorse the ideology of designated terror outfit Babbar Khalsa, and legitimise its actions.The content was ruled to be materially misleading the audience besides encouraging engagement in terrorism or other forms of criminal activity.
