Taxis to get more pricey as Karnataka government revises cab rates

As per the order, non-AC taxis will charge Rs 75/first 4kms, will charge Rs 18/km later; AC taxis to charge Rs 100/first 4kms, to charge Rs 24/km later.

Karnataka government ordered revision in rates for all city taxis and other taxis operating in the state, with immediate effect: State Transport Department in an order issued on February 1.

The waiting charge too has been revised - first 5 mins free, Re 1 per minute to be charged afterwards. Night charge — fare raised by 10% from 12am - 6am.

As for those travelling with luggage, charges do not apply for baggage like suitcases, bedding etc upto 120 kg. However, it will cost Rs 7 for every 20 kg upwards of that number.

This revision comes after the Karnataka government earlier in January notified maximum and minimum prices for taxis operating under aggregators, based on the cost of the car and not whether it has air conditioning. This was done to prevent aggregators from demanding more than the maximum price, even during peak demand.
