Barely moments after the Supreme Court announced that the setting up of a four-member committee to hold negotiations with the farmers over the Centre's farm laws, politics has erupted over the matter.

Among those questioning the four-member panel, and in the process the Supreme Court as well, is TMC MP Mahua Moitra. The members of the panel include Bharatiya Kisan Union President Bhupinder Singh Mann, International Policy Head Dr Pramod Kumar Joshi, Agricultural Economist Ashok Gulati and Shivkeri Sangathan president Anil Ghanwat.Questioning the panel, Mahua Moitra alleged on Twitter, "Composition of 4 member SC committee shatters all delusions of justice for farmers. Do check out each member’s record - talk about systemic bias!"The Trinamool Congress MP alleged that all four members of the panel have at some point expressed their support to the Centre's new farm laws.

Similar concerns were expressed by Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram who said that while the decision to form a committee to help find a solution is well-intentioned, the composition of the panel is puzzling and sends contradictory signals."The concern expressed by the Supreme Court over the farmers’ protests is justified and welcome in the situation created by a stubborn government. The decision to form a committee to help find a solution is well-intentioned. However, the composition of the four-member committee is puzzling and sends contradictory signals," Chidambaram Tweeted.
