Modi, Hasina build upon the legacy of 1971

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina on Saturday discussed a range of issues pertaining to health, trade, connectivity among others in a step to further boost the bilateral cooperation between two neighbouring countries. 

The two countries also exchanged five Memorandum of Understandings in the presence of two prime ministers."Relationship growing from strength to strength! Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina discussed the progress achieved in areas of health, trade, connectivity, energy, developmental cooperation and many more," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that MoUs were aimed at strengthening cooperation in various sectors of the two neighbouring countries.

During their bilateral talks, PM Modi handed over representational keys of 109 life-saving ambulances to his counterpart.He also gifted 1.2 million Covid vaccines as part of India's Neighbourhood First Policy and Vaccine Diplomacy. So far, India has delivered over 60 million doses of vaccines to over 75 countries.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi performed pooja at the Jeshoreshwari Kali Shaktipeeth in Satkhira, which is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths in the Puranic tradition.Besides, he also sought blessings at the Hari Mandir in Orakandi and interacted with the descendants of revered Thakur family.

PM Modi also paid tribute at the Mausoleum of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara."This marked the first-ever visit by any foreign Head of State or Head of Government to pay homage at Bangabandhu Mausoleum Complex," the MEA said.

During his visit, he also signed the visitor book at the Mausoleum complex.He wrote, "The life of Bangabandhu epitomized the freedom struggle of the people of Bangladesh for their rights, for the preservation of their inclusive culture and their identity."
