India reports 26,291 new Coronavirus cases; Centre warns against lowering guard

Nearly 88 per cent of the new cases have been reported from states like Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.

The number of new Coronavirus cases in the country witnessed another spike today with 26,291 fresh cases being reported. With this, the number of active cases in India has gone up to 2,19,262.In the last 24 hours, the number of recoveries has risen to 17,455 compared to 16,637 recoveries reported on Sunday.The death tollhas seen a drop with 118 deaths being reported in the last 24 hours compared to 161 deaths a day earlier.Nearly 88 per cent of the new cases have been reported from states like Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.

Maharashtra continues to report the highest daily new cases followed by Kerala and Punjab. Over 7.03 lakh samples were tested in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of tests done so far to over 22.74 crore.Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that the cases are increasing due to the casual approach adopted by people in certain states.Some people feel that now the vaccine has arrived, so they do not have to wear masks. Such negligence can increase public health risk, the Union Health Minister said.Covid-appropriate behaviour has to be followed and the vaccination process has to be bolstered to ensure that the virus doesn't spread, he said.
