India reports 18,870 new COVID-19 cases, 378 deaths in last 24 hours

Kerala had the most cases on Tuesday, with 11,196, followed by Tamil Nadu with 1,630, Mizoram with 1,380, Andhra Pradesh with 771, and West Bengal with 708. 

In the last 24 hours, India has recorded 18,870 new Covid-19 cases, which is 0.4 per cent more than the previous day. With this, the total number of cases in the country has reached 3,37,16,451. The daily case count on Tuesday was 18,795, which was 27.8 per cent fewer than the previous day. For the first time in the last six months, the number of cases has fallen below 20,000. 

According to the most recent statistics published by the Union Health Ministry, 378 deaths were reported throughout the nation in the previous 24 hours, bringing the overall death toll to 4,47,751.

Kerala had the most cases on Tuesday, with 11,196, followed by Tamil Nadu with 1,630, Mizoram with 1,380, Andhra Pradesh with 771, and West Bengal with 708. Kerala had the most casualties (58), followed by Maharashtra, which had 32 daily deaths. The three largest states, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Bihar, reported no Covid fatalities. Covid fatalities were also reported to be nil in Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand.

In the previous 24 hours, a total of 28,178 patients recovered, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 3,29,86,180 across the country. India's recovery rate has now reached 97.83 per cent. In the previous 24 hours, India has delivered a total of 54,13,332 doses, bringing the total number of doses administered to 87,66,63,490. In the previous 24 hours, a total of 15,04,713 samples were examined.

India's active caseload was at 2,82,520 as of 8 a.m. on Wednesday. According to the health ministry, the number of active cases has decreased by 9,686 in the previous 24 hours.

The country's medicines authority has approved vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute's enrollment of children aged 7 to 11 in a US pharmaceutical Novavax's COVID-19 vaccine study.
