Coronavirus: India’s death toll rises by 4,205 in highest single-day surge, reports 3,48,421 new cases

The second wave of Covid-19 in India appears to be slowing down gradually over the last few days.

India on Wednesday registered 3,48,421 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally in the country to 2,33,40,938 since the pandemic broke out in January last year.

At the same time, the death toll continues to be a source of alarm. On Wednesday morning, data from the Health Ministry indicated that 4205 deaths had been recorded in the last 24 hours - the highest single day surge in casualties recorded by the country.

With today's numbers, the total number of active cases in the country now stands at 37.04 lakh.

According to the health ministry, 193,826,42 people have recovered from the disease till date. The recovery rate rises to 83% and the case positivity has also declined to 17.56%.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), total 30.75 crore samples were tested till May 10 (Monday). Over 19.83 lakh samples were tested on May 10, according to the central body.
