Coronavirus: India's COVID-19 death rate over 4,000 again in the last 24 hours

India registered 4,209 Covid-19 deaths and 2,59,551 new cases in the last 24 hours. The active cases are down by 1 lakh and the total active cases in the country now stand at 30,27,925.

India on Friday reported a total of 2,59,551 new Covid-19 cases, a drop from over 2.76 lakh recorded a day ago, according to the updated data released by the Union health ministry. With this, the country's total coronavirus case tally has gone up to 26,031,991.

India registered record deaths due to Covid on Wednesday with 4,529 deaths -- the highest number of fatalities from Covid infection in any country so far. It surpassed 4,468 deaths in the US on January 12, and earlier 4,211 in Brazil on April 6. These three are the worst-hit by the pandemic.
