Coronavirus: India reports 43,071 new COVID cases; slight increase in deaths in last 24 hours

The receding trend of fresh cases continued as India reported 43,071 new Covid cases and 955 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The country crossed a grim milestone of 4 lakh Covid deaths on Friday - the third after US and Brazil. The total death toll in the country is now at 4,02,005.

The total active cases of Covid-19 in India have now mounted to 4,85,350, the data showed. Active cases constitute 1.59% of the total caseload.
According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Sunday, the country saw a total of 52,299 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery to 2,96,58,078.
Weekly positivity rate remains below 5%, at 2.44%, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 97.09%, the ministry said.
India conducted 18,38,490 tests during the previous day, aggregating to 41.82 crore tests so far, according to the Health Ministry data.
Over 63.87 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours.
