Coronavirus: India breaks pandemic record with highest-ever single-day spike of 1,84,372 new cases

India reported a record single-day rise of 1,84,372 new coronavirus infections pushing the total tally of cases to 1,38,73,825, while the active cases surpassed the 13-lakh mark, according to the Union health ministry data.

India also witnessed 1,027 deaths due to covid-19 in a single day, the highest since October 18, 2020, taking a toll at 172,115.

Registering a steady increase for the 35th day in a row, the active cases increased to 13,65,704, comprising 9.84% of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has dropped to 88.92%.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,23,36,036, while the case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.24%, the data stated.

According to the ICMR, 26,06,18,866 samples have been tested up to April 13 with 14,11,758 samples being tested on Tuesday.

More than 11 crore vaccine doses have been administered in India till Tuesday. Of this, nearly 1 crore vaccine doses were administered since the start of Tika Utsav, the Union health ministry said.
