Bengaluru: Kanakapura Namma Metro section inaugurated, travel from today

The 6.29-km elevated line will have five stations – Konanakunte Cross, Doddakallasandra, Vajrahalli, Thalaghattapura and Silk Institute.
 

After missing several deadlines, the Yelachenahalli-Silk Institute line of Metro Phase-2 was inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri.

The 6.29-km elevated line will have five stations – Konanakunte Cross, Doddakallasandra, Vajrahalli, Thalaghattapura and Silk Institute. Regular commercial services began from 7 am on Friday.

This is the first corridor which will be opened under Namma Metro’s Phase 2, which was sanctioned in 2014. Passengers can travel between Silk Institute and Yelachenahalli in 10 minutes at Rs 20.

In 2016, BMRCL had awarded the work to Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) at a cost of Rs 508 crore. It was to be completed in 27 months. It missed the August 15, 2020 and November 1, 2020 deadlines due to shortage of workers because of the pandemic.
