Amit Shah in West Bengal even as revolt hits Mamata

Amit Shah is on a two-day visit to take stock of the Bharatiya Janata Party's affairs in West Bengal ahead of the 2021 assembly elections scheduled around March-end.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata in the wee hours of Saturday on a two-day visit to take stock of the  Bharatiya Janata Party's affairs in West Bengal ahead of the 2021 assembly elections scheduled around March-end.

The Home Minister will later today address a public rally at Midnapore where a number of Trinamool Congress leaders are expected to join the saffron party.

Following the resignation of TMC heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday, three more MLAs - Jitendra Tiwari, Shilbhadra Dutta and Banasri Maity -- have quit Mamata Banerjee's party

Upon his arrival in Kolkata, Amit Shah tweeted, "I bow to this revered land of greats like Gurudev Tagore, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and Syama Prasad Mookerjee."

On Saturday, Amit Shah will attend a meeting with NIA officials after which he will visit Swami Vivekanada's residence in north Kolkata. Later, he will travel to Midnapore. 

On Sunday, Shah will visit the Visva-Bharati University in Shantiniketan and then lead a roadshow in Bolpur, which will be followed by a press conference.
