Neeraj Chopra is in the seventh sky after claiming the gold medal in the javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics. Meanwhile, he has revealed what he is aiming at next.
India javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is the talking point for having clinched the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Consequently, it is celebration time for him and the entire nation, as he handed India its second individual Olympic gold ever.
Neeraj has a national record of over 88 metres. While he tried throwing it past 90m on Saturday, he could not get it done. Nonetheless, now that the Olympics is over, he would be focusing on breaking the barriers and throw it past 90m.
Speaking on his next target, Neeraj said that he would be aiming to get it past the 90m-mark. While his focus was entirely on the Olympics this year, having won the gold, he would switch his focus to a few international events, as he would be applying for a foreign visa upon returning to India, reports PTI.
Speaking on his performance, he thanked the Target Olympics Podium Scheme, Sports Authority of India and Athletics Federation of India for arranging three international events for him in the build-up to the Games, which really helped him. He also thanked the organisations for providing him with excellent training facilities.
He also asserted while throwing, if the first throw goes well, it somewhat releases the pressure. He was really confident about his first two throws that set the benchmark.
At the same time, he also felt that it piled up pressure on the other athletes, including his German friend Johannes Vetter, who was eliminated after the first three rounds. Nevertheless, the German applauded the Indian's gold-winning effort and called him a hugely talented guy.
