I hope the country recognises what a huge achievement this is. And, isn’t it great that the Javelin gold medals in both the Olympics and Paralympics now are with India? I will do my best that I come back with the same medal.”

The same also excited renowned Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh, the son of legendary late Indian sprinter and Olympian Milkha Singh. “Dad always used to say I want to see an Indian win an Olympic athletics medal before I die. How I wish I could see his reaction in real life. But, I am sure he is watching it all from above there, with tears of joy flowing down his cheeks,” he told Newsable.

Also, Adille Sumariwala, a former Indian sprinter and the reigning head of the Athletics Federation of India, told Newsable, "We are all happy at the historic gold for our nation, and am particularly thrilled that the first athletics medal comes and that too a gold. Athletics is particularly important as it is the purest form of sport. Throw, run, jump etc., are all-natural sports and can generally be done without specialised equipment."
