Former Indian hockey legend and icon Major Dhyan Chand is all set to get recognition on the big screen. A documentary is being planned on the former Olympian who helped India attain great heights in the sport, besides being the most exquisite hockey player to date.

According to a PTI report, producer Joyeeta Roy along with entrepreneur Prateek Kumar Mishra has been working on the idea of a docudrama. The documentary is supposed to focus on Dhyan Chand's early life and initial struggles as he rose to stardom in the sport.

The producers have already held talks with Dhyan Chand's son Ashok Dhyan Chand. Although the shooting for the same was scheduled to get underway last year, the COVID-19 pandemic has severely delayed it. Nevertheless, the shooting is likely to be held in June, while the documentary is likely being released on December 3, his 43rd death anniversary.

Dhyan Chand helped India win three golds during the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics, while he also managed to score 570 goals in 185 games between 1926-49. Among his accomplishments were Padma Bhushan in 1956, while his birthday on August 29 is celebrated as the National Sports Day.
