ATK Mohun Bagan continued its fine run in the 2020-21 Indian Super League, with a clinical 2-0 win over former champion Bengaluru FC, at the Fatorda Stadium in Bengaluru, on Tuesday. With this win, ATKMB continues to stay on second, while Bengaluru is at sixth, as the former has virtually sealed its playoffs berth.
The opening half saw six attempts being made until the 29th minute, including four saves from Bengaluru goalkeeper, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. However, six minutes later, Pratik Chowdhary brought down Roy Krishna inside the box, while the latter successfully converted the same into a goa, with his right foot, to the top-right, as ATKMB earned the opening lead.
Three more attacks ensued until the 41st minute. Meanwhile, a couple of minutes later, Marcelinho scored the second with his left foot to the top-right through a free-kick. While another attempt was made in the 45th minute, it was the final attack before the half-time break.
The second half saw a total of nine attacks, including six saves, while ATKMB goalkeeper, Arindam Bhattacharya came up with four of them. Nonetheless, it was improvised gameplay from Bengaluru in the half, while no further goals occured, as ATKMB walked away with the two-goal win at the full-time whistle.
ATKMB would now take on seventh-placed Jamshedpur FC on Sunday. As for Bengaluru, it has a challenging task against table-topper Mumbai City FC, on Monday.
