In what turned out to be a nail-biting, but frustrating encounter, ATK Mohun Bagan came up with a spirited performance to tame FC Goa 1-0 in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21, at the Fatorda Stadium in Bengaluru, on Wednesday. The win took ATK to the second spot, while Goa stayed in the sixth spot.
As for the first half, it was a composed one, with six attacks coming up. The only promising one came in the 39th minute when ATK's David Williams hit the post with his right footed-strike from outside the box after Carl McHugh came up with the assist. It tuned out to be the final attack of the half, as both the sides went in goalless at the half time.
The second half was no similar, as there were five attacks before Goa's Aibanbha Dohling conceded a penalty in the 83rd minute. At the same time, Roy Krishna successfully converted it into a goal, with his right-footed shot, to the bottom left corner.
Naturally, Goa became relentless, as six more attacks ensured. However, it was to no avail, as ATK switched to the defensive mode, while their defence stayed strong until the full-time whistle, as they walked away with the three points.
Both the sides would now switch focus to their next game. While Goa take on former champions, Chennaiyin FC, on Saturday, ATK would be up against fellow former champions, Bengaluru FC, on Monday.
