ISL 2020-21: Mumbai City FC reclaims top spot following Bengaluru FC drubbing

This was Mumbai City FC's seventh win of the season, as along with a draw and a loss, it has once again risen to the top spot. Meanwhile, it happened to be Bengaluru FC's third loss of the season, as with three wins and loses each, it stays on fifth.

In what turned out to be an emphatic display by Mumbai City FC, it drubbed former champion, Bengaluru FC, 3-1, in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21, at the Fatorda Stadium in Bengaluru, on Tuesday. With this win, Mumbai has once again reclaimed the top spot, while Bengaluru stays on fifth.

The opening half began with a couple of attacks within eight minutes, as Mumbai was ahead the very minute, following a header from Mourtada Fall to the top right, six yards from the left through a corner kick. It was followed by another attack, as the visitor doubled the lead just six minutes later, with Bipin Singh's right-footed strike to the top left from the centre, following a Mandar Rao Dessai cross assist.

It was composed gameplay from both sides, with four attempts being made thereon, including twin saves from Mumbai's goalkeeper, Amrinder Singh. Nonetheless, Mumbai did not budge, as it maintained its lead at the half-time break.

Nonetheless, it was six minutes later when Fall conceded a foul over Cleiton Silva inside the box, as Sunil Chhetri converted the penalty with his right foot to the top left.

Another attack from Mumbai ensured in the 82nd minute before Bartholomew Ogbeche scored the third for the side in the next minute, with his header to the centre, following a corner assist from Cy Goddard. Meanwhile, the 85th minute saw Mumbai's Ahmed Jahouh earning his second yellow card of the game and eventually being sent off.

Two more attempts were made during the added time from both, including another save from Sandhu. Nonetheless, as Mumbai comfortably walked away with the three points at the full-time whistle, it hardly mattered.
